As a strategist, data development, you serve as an expert advisor in linking the technical expertise of data scientists and IT teams with the operational expertise of business sectors (e.g., marketing, finance, risk and human resources). You help business leaders further integrate analysis into operational processes, make informed decisions and drive value creation through the optimal use of data.

In support of business and strategic priorities, you lead and influence the promotion of a data- and metric-driven culture and the identification, prioritization and implementation of opportunities to develop data. You use your interpersonal and storytelling skills to explain complex concepts and help the business sectors understand models produced by data scientists. You support the implementation of these models and change management.

As an end-to-end manager of analytical initiatives, you support data scientists and IT specialists in understanding business needs, designing the best solution, developing it and translating it into concrete action that will generate measurable value for the business sectors.

General Information on the Position

Additional responsibilities

• Identify high-priority and realistic business opportunities: These may come from a number of sources, such as strategic plans, marketing plans, discussions with senior management and market studies. Align use cases with business sector priorities.
• Assess the impact of business opportunities: Evaluate their complexity, requirements, risks and dependencies.
• Translate business opportunities into use cases: Demonstrate the benefits of use cases for the organization (e.g., data development). Identify stakeholders and secure their commitment. Document each use case and develop a clear roadmap of the steps and activities required to execute it.
• Define the analytical solution: Work with multidisciplinary teams, such as business representatives, data scientists, data engineers and the IT team to define the solution.
• End-to-end delivery approach: Coordinate and support the development team from the development to the rollout of the solution.
• Help with the business integration of the solution and with change management. Support the business sectors in the integration of the solution for end users. Assist with education and communication efforts aimed at maximizing the solution’s adoption.
• Performance tracking: Develop performance tracking indicators and methods. Identify problems and make recommendations to those concerned.
• Monitor solutions to measure their performance following implementation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• Master’s degree in data science or a related field, such as mathematics, computer engineering, statistics or physics (an asset)
• At least 8 years of relevant experience in data development, including at least 3 years in a similar role
• Experience in banking, wealth management or insurance (a major asset)
• Consulting experience (an asset)
• A solid background in the development and implementation of advanced analytical and machine learning models (e.g., regression techniques, time series classification, clustering, natural language processing and deep learning)
• Experience carrying out large-scale, complex and transformational projects

Specific knowledge

• Knowledge of and facility with data science tools, services and platforms (e.g., SAS, Python, R, Azure, GCP and Databricks)
• Advanced proficiency in spoken and written French
• Proficient speaker, advanced knowledge of English
