What is the opportunity?
As a member of the Portfolio Advisory Group, the Portfolio Management Co-op student helps advisors effectively manage portfolios for retail clients, with a focus on communication and publications, security selection, and portfolio construction across a range of financial instruments. You will empower advisors with better capabilities around portfolio monitoring, planning, construction, vehicle selection, and ongoing management.
The Portfolio Advisory team is responsible for advising RBC WM Canada’s ~1,800 Investment Advisors. The role deals more specifically with Canadian, US, and International equities, as well as overall considerations related to asset allocation and the market outlook. The team supports $170 bln in equity assets, including Canada’s largest discretionary asset management program, and manages several different model portfolios, which have more than ~$10 billion of RBC DS client assets following their mandates. The team also manages a number of mandates on the firm’s UMA platform. The team provides a considerable range of timely thought leadership through a broad range of internal and client-oriented media.
The ideal candidate should enjoy working in a team setting, be a strong problem solver and have the ability to interpret and articulate complex information. The breadth of asset classes covered and access to a large pool of intellectual capital translates into a fast paced, client centered, and advice driven environment.
What will you do?
The Portfolio Management Co-op will research, analyze, and provide administrative support to Portfolio Advisors. Job will entail writing significant content for the Morning and Mid-Day notes, morning conference call and other publications which rank amongst the most widely read documents within all of RBC Dominion Securities. Other functions include: researching individual companies, building Excel models, answering calls from investment advisors and learning to utilize a Bloomberg terminal.
Key deliverables or work tasks of the assignment include:
Morning/Mid-Day Notes content–Frequency: Daily
Month-in-Review – Frequency: Monthly
Draft, manage and publish the Month-In-Review (MIR) for DS advisors and their clients.
Complete the MIR process on a timely basis (within 5 business days of the prior month end) with minimal edits.
Assist DS Investment Advisors–Frequency: Daily
